By downloading, installing, accessing, or using JOY — including by tapping "Let's Begin" during onboarding — you accept and agree to be bound by these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use JOY.
These Terms apply to all users: senior users (those using JOY for personal wellness), family caregivers, and Memory Companions (trusted non-family supporters).
You must be at least 13 years of age to use JOY. JOY is primarily designed for adults aged 55 and older and their family members or caregivers. By using JOY, you confirm you meet the minimum age requirement.
If a senior user requires assistance using the app, a caregiver may help them. By providing such assistance, the caregiver confirms they accept these Terms on behalf of the assisted user's interaction with the app. Caregivers also represent that they have the senior user's permission or legal authority to assist with account setup, upload content on their behalf, and view shared activity data.
JOY is a wellness and family connection application. It provides daily structured wellness activities including guided breathing, brain engagement exercises, memory-based reminiscing, family photo moments, voice message exchange, and gratitude practices.
Nothing in JOY constitutes medical advice, a diagnosis, or a treatment recommendation. Brain games and memory exercises are for personal engagement and wellness only — not for clinical assessment of cognitive function. See our Medical Disclaimer and Cognitive Wellness Disclaimer.
JOY does not monitor users for emergencies. If you believe someone is in danger, call 911 immediately.
You may create an account using email/password, Sign In with Apple (iOS), or Google Sign-In. You are responsible for:
You may not create accounts for others without their knowledge, or share your account with people outside your family group.
You retain full ownership of photos, voice recordings, written messages, captions, and other content you upload to JOY ("Your Content").
By uploading content, you grant Joy Health Technologies LLC a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, royalty-free license to store, process, transcode, and display Your Content solely for the purpose of delivering the JOY service to authorized users in your family account. This license ends when you delete the content or close your account.
You represent and warrant that:
We do not use Your Content to train AI models or for any purpose beyond delivering the JOY service. See our Caregiver Guidelines and Community Guidelines for upload standards.
JOY uses the Anthropic Claude API to generate personalized "reminiscing prompts" based on memory metadata you provide (name, relationship, caption, category). These prompts are suggestions intended to encourage conversation and reminiscing. They are:

JOY offers a free tier. Premium features may be available through a paid subscription. All subscription purchases, billing, and cancellations are processed exclusively by Apple (App Store) or Google (Play Store) — we do not handle payment information directly.
Auto-renewal: Paid subscriptions automatically renew at the end of each subscription period unless cancelled before the renewal date. Apple or Google will charge your payment method on file at the start of each renewal period.
Subscription terms including price, renewal period, and cancellation steps are disclosed at the point of purchase. To cancel a subscription:

JOY, the JOY logo, tagline "Because every memory matters," all app screens, code, brand elements, and content created by Joy Health Technologies LLC are our exclusive intellectual property. You may not copy, reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from any JOY-owned material without written permission.

You may delete your account and all associated personal data at any time directly in the app: Profile → Settings → Delete Account. If you are unable to access the app, you may also request deletion by emailing joy@joyhealthtechnologies.com. Upon deletion, your personal data will be removed within 30 days per our Account Deletion Policy.
We reserve the right to suspend or permanently terminate accounts that violate these Terms, with or without notice. Termination does not entitle you to a refund of any paid subscription.
JOY is provided "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.
We do not warrant that JOY will: be error-free or uninterrupted; meet your specific requirements; improve any health or cognitive outcome; prevent cognitive decline; or be free from security vulnerabilities.
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Joy Health Technologies LLC and its officers, directors, employees, and agents shall not be liable for:
Our total aggregate liability to you shall not exceed the greater of: (a) the amount you paid us in the 12 months prior to the claim, or (b) $100 USD.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or limitations of liability. In those jurisdictions, our liability is limited to the maximum extent permitted by law.
You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Joy Health Technologies LLC from any claims, losses, damages, liabilities, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from: your violation of these Terms; Your Content; your use of JOY in a manner not authorized by these Terms; or your violation of any third party's rights.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Washington, United States, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any dispute arising from these Terms or your use of JOY shall first be attempted to be resolved through good-faith negotiation by contacting us at joy@joyhealthtechnologies.com. If not resolved within 30 days, disputes shall be resolved by binding arbitration under the American Arbitration Association rules, except that either party may seek injunctive or declaratory relief in court for IP disputes.
Class Action Waiver: YOU AND JOY AGREE THAT EACH MAY BRING CLAIMS AGAINST THE OTHER ONLY IN YOUR OR ITS INDIVIDUAL CAPACITY AND NOT AS A PLAINTIFF OR CLASS MEMBER IN ANY PURPORTED CLASS OR REPRESENTATIVE ACTION. Either party may bring individual claims in small claims court.
Apple App Store users: These Terms are between you and Joy Health Technologies LLC only — not Apple. Apple is not responsible for JOY or these Terms. Apple has no obligation to provide support or maintenance for JOY.
Google Play users: Google Play's terms of service apply to your download of JOY. In the event of a conflict between those terms and these Terms as they relate to JOY's functionality, these Terms control.
We may update these Terms. We will notify you of material changes via email or in-app notice and update the Effective Date. Continued use of JOY after changes constitutes acceptance.
