Family Sharing Policy

JOY is built around a family account model. This policy explains exactly who can see what, how data flows within a family group, and what privacy protections are in place for senior users specifically.
1. Account Roles
JOY supports three account roles:
- Senior user ("I'm joining for myself"): The older adult who uses JOY for daily wellness sessions.
- Family Caregiver: An adult family member or trusted person who uploads memories, sends messages, and monitors the senior's activity and well-being.
- Memory Companion: A trusted non-family individual (friend, neighbor, faith community member) who can send curated conversation prompts and see basic session activity.
2. What Each Role Can See and Do

3. Senior Privacy Within the Family Group
Senior users should be aware that by connecting a caregiver account, the caregiver gains visibility into their daily activity — session completion, wellness check-in answers, mood, brain game scores, and voice replies. This is the core value of JOY: keeping family informed and close. However:
- Seniors control their own notification preferences independently of caregivers
- Seniors can choose whether to record a voice reply on any given day — it is never required
- Seniors can choose not to answer any wellness check-in question (some questions allow "I'd rather not say" or can be skipped)
- The Memory Exercises (quiz) feature requires explicit caregiver opt-in and is OFF by default
4. Linking Accounts
A caregiver connects to a senior account via an invitation code generated in the app. Linking requires:
- The senior (or someone assisting the senior) to have a JOY account and generate a connection code
- The caregiver to enter the code to establish the link
A single senior account can be linked to multiple caregivers. A single caregiver can be linked to multiple seniors.
5. Memory Companion Access
Memory Companions have limited access compared to full family caregivers. They can:
- See whether the senior completed their session today (yes/no)
- Send curated daily story prompts to the senior (if the feature is enabled)
- Receive a basic notification when the senior completes a session
Memory Companions cannot see photos, wellness answers, brain game scores, voice replies, or any sensitive personal data. They are trusted conversation partners, not full care monitors.
6. Disconnecting Accounts
Either party can disconnect a family account link by contacting us at joy@joyhealthtechnologies.com. Upon disconnection:
- The caregiver immediately loses access to the senior's activity feed and insights
- Content already uploaded by the caregiver remains in the senior's memory library unless the caregiver or senior requests its removal
- The senior's account and data remain intact
